Need a Fresh Translation for Your Opera Scene?

One important part of any American opera program is having the students perform operas and scenes in English.  Whatever your believe about the best practices of training young opera singers, presenting performances in English is crucial for community outreach.  When a proud mother, father, aunt, uncle, cousin or friend attends a performance, they are going to be able to relate more easily to those scenes presented in English.  This is one small part of keeping opera alive and well!

Of course, we cannot ignore the pain of horrible translations.  How many times have I looked at a Mozart scene and shook my head at the accuracy of the translation.  I'm not just talking about the correct meaning of words, but how the rhyme schemes are set up.  This is what prompted me to create my own translations for scenes.  And along the way, I experimented with some super fun (and moderately silly) scene translations. Check out the samples below and let me know if you'd like to purchase one of my completed translations, or perhaps commission a new translation.
